SJMV MAHANTA FIRST GRADE ARTS and COMMERCE COLLEGE was started in 1986 by the renowned Karnataka Prograssive Education Society (KPES) Dharwad. The KPES was founded by the noted legal and literary luminary Dr. G. M. Patil, the leading practitioner of Law, in Dharwad. In 1992 for the better and fair administration the college was handed over to Sri Jagadguru Murugharajendra Vidyapeetha Brihanmath, Chitradurga on the auspicious occasion of His Holiness Shri Mahanth Swamiji’s 80th Birthday Celebration. The college has been renamed as SJMV’s Mahantha 1st Grade Arts & Commerce College during 2006.
From 1992 to 2002 the college was running in the serene, spiritual backdrop of Sri Murugha Math premises. The college came under Grant-in-Aid system from the Government of Karnataka. The College is affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad and it imparts higher education in two faculties, namely Arts and Commerce. It is one of the prestigious and premier institutions of Sri Murugharajendra Vidyapeetha.
The students’ strength increased considerably year by year hence our benevolent management resolved to provide superior and robust infrastructure and as a consequence, the college stood up proudly with all grandeur amidst the. green atmosphere at” Rayapur” Dharwad in the year 2010. It’s a matter of pride to say that, our college has multi range of subject combinations,his not only helped in the Increase of admissions, but also enabled the students to make free choices of the subjects of their interest.
ನಮ್ಮ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ
ಧಾರವಾಡದ ಪ್ರತಷ್ಥಿತ ಪದವಿ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಸ್.ಜೆ.ಎಂ.ವಿ. ಮಹಾಂತ ಪ್ರಥಮದರ್ಜೆ ಕಲಾ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯು ಒಂದು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಪ್ರಗತಿಪರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಸಂಸ್ಥೆ(ಕೆಪಿಇಎಸ್) ಯಿಂದ ೧೯೮೬ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಗೊoಡಿದ್ದು,ಧಾರವಾಡದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕಾನೂನು ತಜ್ಞರು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಗಣ್ಯರಾದ ಡಾ.ಜಿ.ಎಂ ಪಾಟೀಲರಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತಗೊಂಡಿತು. ಮುಂದೆ ೧೯೯೨ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಮಪೂಜ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಾಂತಪ್ಪಗಳವರ ೮೦ನೆಯ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬದ ಸವಿನೆನಪಿಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಕಾಲೇಜನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀ ಜಗದ್ಗುರು ಮುರುಘರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ವಿದ್ಯಾಪೀಠ,ಬೃಹನ್ಮಠ, ಚಿತ್ರದುರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಮೂಲತ: ಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷಿ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗಿದ್ದು,೨೦೦೬ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಸ್.ಜೆ.ಎಂ.ವಿ.ಮಹಾoತ ಪ್ರಥಮದರ್ಜೆ ಕಲಾ ಹಾಗೂ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಎಂದು ನಾಮಕರಣ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.
ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ೧೯೯೨ ರಿಂದ ಶ್ರೀ ಮುರುಘಾಮಠದ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ವಾತಾವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರ ೧೯೯೮ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಅನುದಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಧಾರವಾಡಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆಗೊoಡು ಕಲಾ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ವಿಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಶ್ರೀ ಮುರುಘರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ವಿದ್ಯಾಪೀಠದ ಪದವಿ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ವಿದ್ಯಾಪೀಠದ ಘನತೆ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಹಿಡಿಯುವ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಜೌನ್ನತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಆಕಾಶದೆತ್ತರಕ್ಕೇರಿಸುವ ಗುರುತರ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.
೨೦೧೦ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಧಾರವಾಡ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿಯ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತಕಟ್ಟಡವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಶಿವಾನಂದ ಮಹಾಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ತಪೋಭೂಮಿ, ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ,ವಾತಾವರಣ ಕಣ್ಮನ ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ನಿಸರ್ಗದ ಮಡಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ತಲೆಎತ್ತಿನಿಂತಿದೆ.
